Located in the Capitol Hill Preservation District, this expansion of the home of AFPC is deftly integrated with its historic neighborhood, returning its facade to its former glory while doubling the office area. A light-filled Research Library/Atrium is the core around which the foundation’s offices are organized. Glazed floor panels allow light to penetrate the five-story atrium allowing the extension of the building’s original footprint. A state of the art Research and Conference Center, located below grade borrows light from the adjacent court through glass blocks integrated into the concrete paving.
