Dupont Circle Plaza is the focus of a multi-modal streetscape improvement along Connecticut Avenue from Dupont Circle to develop a safe, pedestrian-friendly corridor that will continue to spur economic development. The plaza will deck over the Connecticut Avenue underpass to create a multi-use public space between Dupont Circle and Q Street for all users and modes adjacent to a primary metro connection. The new general public area will provide a vibrant space for visitors to enjoy everyday activities or special events such as a farmer's market, outdoor movies, music, plays, and cultural events. KGP's role in this feasibility study was to document and assess the impact on the complex layers of subsurface infrastructure and adjacent buildings. Coordinated with the engineer's various plaza configurations and circulation patterns and developed for review to provide a preferred plaza design presented to the community and stakeholders. Additional streetscape improvements along Connecticut Avenue NW will enhance pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and vehicular traffic along the corridor by rebuilding curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and pedestrian ramps and improving intersection operations and safety for all roadway users.
